Service Work
Service work is one of the most important components of Sati Center’s Chaplaincy Training. It allows our students to put into practice what they learn in class and to bring to class their experiences in doing chaplaincy work.
It is important that students find and begin their 10-hour a month service work placement early in the program. Once they have been accepted to the program, students should begin researching volunteer options. Ideally, they would have started the volunteer work during the first month of our program. To help with placements, below are some of the options that exist, though they are mostly in the Bay Area. These institutions will usually have their own introductory training or orientation volunteers will need to do before starting to volunteer.
Students may volunteer in their areas of interest. This can include healthcare (i.e. hospitals, hospice), social services (i.e. homelessness, rehabilitation), law enforcement (i.e. police), prisons & jails, the military, and faith groups (i.e. sanghas). Generally, however, the best all-around training is found in hospital settings.
The list below is updated sporadically. There may have been some changes to staffing in the meantime.
