The Spectrum of Compassion with Kim Allen

March 19 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm PDT

Event Series Event Series (See All)

The first noble truth reminds us that dukkha (suffering) is to be understood. This entails a clear willingness to get close to suffering – our own and others’. The quality of caring for the dukkha that is part of human life encompasses a rich spectrum of actions and attitudes, all of which could be called compassion.

This course explores a selection of compassionate mindstates and actions found in the Pāli Canon with occasional connections to later Buddhist literature. Rather that attempt a comprehensive selection, the course will spotlight several diverse examples. Sessions include teachings, meditation, and small- and large-group discussion.
